Discover Coimbra and Aveiro: A Journey Through History, Canals and Seaside Charm.
Join us on a memorable journey from Porto to two of the most emblematic cities in central Portugal. In Coimbra, the quintessential university town, we’ll visit the oldest university in the country, one of the oldest in Europe, and the magnificent Joanina Library, home to over 300,000 rare volumes. We’ll cross the Mondego River to explore the Convent of Santa Clara and the legendary Quinta das Lágrimas, setting of the tragic love story of King Pedro and Inês de Castro. After a culinary stop at a local tavern, we head to Aveiro, often called the “Venice of Portugal,” where canals, colorful moliceiro boats, and Art Nouveau buildings create a charming atmosphere. Enjoy a moliceiro boat ride along the canals, admire historic architecture, and enjoy free time to explore the city: visit the fish market, see the tiled Train Station, or taste the famous “ovos moles” (sweet egg pastries). Our final stop is the Aveiro Salt Pans, where you’ll learn about the ancient art of salt production. Then, we continue to the picturesque Costa Nova, known for its striped houses and stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Aveiro Lagoon. A day full of culture, tradition, and natural beauty, before returning to Porto.
