Step Into The story of Terceira’s Past

Discover the fascinating circular route in Caldeira de Guilherme Moniz, a protected geological area full of Macaronesian forests and peat bogs that sustain the aquifers of this 23,000-year old volcanic complex! The route starts near the car park, taking you through ancient lava fields and trails carved out by the ox carts that once sought wood in the caldera. Follow the impressive landscapes, passing through a forest of cedars and glimpses of the Cinco Picos Volcano, the largest caldera in the Azores. Along the way, enjoy the rich endemic vegetation, including heather and cedar. End your adventure by admiring the unique beauty of the Guilherme Moniz Caldera and its majestic nature! We end our tour with a delicious cheese tasting.
